Charlotte County

Formed in 1921, Punta Gorda serves as the County Seat of Charlotte County. Named after Queen Charlotte, the grandmother of Victoria and the fourth great grandmother of Queen Elizabeth the second, Charlotte County contains 859 square miles, with 169 of them being water.

The only incorporated city is Punta Gorda, and the Board of County Commissioners administers the unincorporated Charlotte County.

Known as the Tarpon Capital of the World, there are 830 miles of shoreline. Conservation efforts protect nearly 85% of the land.

Gulf Island and Charlotte Harbor offer residents and visitors access to world-class boating and fishing. Western Michigan University and Florida Southwestern State College both have campuses in Charlotte County, Florida.

Founded in 1885, Punta Gorda is in the Central Southwest of the Gulf Coast. Originally, Punta Gorda was a Trabue on a 30-acre home site. Since the beginning, Punta Gorda is a friendly community with a promising future and a distinguished past.

You’ll find the Cape Coral Peninsula on the west banks of the Caloosahatchee River. Founded in 1957, real estate developers bought 103 square miles for $678K.
